摘要:In the above cartoons, a young woman happily eats bananas and throws the peels on the street, unaware of the fact that such actions not only pollute the environment but also bring dangers to others. A disabled man struggles to properly pick up the peels she has left behind and put them in the dustbin. In my opinion, despite the girl's beauty, it is the disabled man who is truly beautiful. Being well dressed is of great importance in keeping a good appearance. However, we should always keep this in mind: True beauty comes from one's actions . The old man is displaying a more beautiful virtue even though he is disabled, compared with the young girl. While most of us enjoy pretty appearances, I think it is more important to have a clean and beautiful soul. Only such souls can create a beautiful society.

There is no doubt that much of the profit of a business—sometimes the whole of its success—depends upon the use of the odds and ends. The odds and ends are various small things, which are left over when the main things are produced. But they possess a real value of their own.
If a business, big or small, looked down upon these odds and ends,it would mean a big difference in the amount of the benefit of the business.Take a meat factory for instance, there are countless odds and ends—bones and hair, which can be made into glue and rope to increase its profit greatly.
Then,if we are college students, what about our odds and ends—the odd moments? Take time for example.Every one of us has the exact same amount of it.Everyone’s success or failure depends on the use of their time. But everyone uses the time more or less in the same way. However, why many great men in science or art have made huge successes for themselves in the world?Because they have made best use of their odd moments.Take Thomas A.Edison, he never allowed his odd moments to slip by.He thought, planned, and tried his inventions. He always worked twenty hours out of each twenty-four.His inventions made him famous all over the world, and provided valuable wealth for the human beings.
So, remember this axiom:very busy people always find time for everything. However, people with great spare time find time for nothing. Is it very strange? Not at all!The question is how to gather up fragments of time and make full use of them.As many big businesses have found, that the real profit is in using the odds and ends.We also must do in this way to make best use of our odd moments and manage to be successful in something that we do.

Most people think that the older you get, the harder it is to learn a new language. That is, they believe that children learn more easily and efficiently than adults. Thus, at some point in our lives, maybe around age 12 or 13, we lose the ability to learn languages well. Is this idea a fact or myth(悬念)?

Is it true that children learn a foreign language more efficiently than adults? On the contrary, research studies suggest that the opposite may be true. One report, on 2,000 Danish children studying Swedish, concluded that the teenagers learned more, in less time, than the younger children. Another report, on Americans learning Russian, showed a direct improvement of ability over the age range tested; that is, the ability to learn increased as the age increased, from childhood to adulthood.

There are several possible explanations for these findings. For one thing, adults know more about the world and therefore are able to understand meanings more easily than children. Moreover, adults can use logical(逻辑的) thinking to help themselves see patterns in the language. Finally, adults have more self-discipline (self-control) than children.

All in all, it seems that the common idea that children are better language learners than adults may not be a fact, but a myth.

1.The main idea of the passage is ____.

A.teenagers are more difficult to teach

B.Danish teenagers can learn Swedish faster than younger children

C.adults are more logical than children

D.the ability to learn languages increases with age

2.According to the passage, teenagers can learn a foreign language _____ than younger children.

A.harder                               B.more efficiently

C.more slowly                           D.more carefully

3.Which of the following possible explanations for older student’s better achievement is not mentioned in the above passage?

A.Adults know more about the world.         B.Adults can use logical thinking

C.Adults have more self-discipline.            D.Adults can read better.
