You Mi, a lovely and confident 17-year-old student, is the first Chinese high school student to appear on the cover of the popular young adults¡¯ fashion magazine Seventeen.

¡°You is IN,¡± said Wang Lihua, Editor-in-Chief of Seventeen. ¡°She is active and mature(³ÉÊìµÄ) because of her knowledge on everything from academic studies, to books on art, to movies. We found she¡¯s the very style we¡¯re looking for to represent young people¡¯s attitudes.¡±

You also impressed Wang with her fluent English when they first met last year. As the hostess of an English broadcasting programme at the High School Affiliated to Renmin University, You is always praised for speaking English almost like a native speaker. ¡°I¡¯ve built up my English by watching thousands of English DVDs since I was 10,¡± she explained.

But for You, watching isn¡¯t enough. Last year, while in Senior 1, she met a talented boy who showed self-made DV movies at the English Corner in her school.

So she wrote a campus(У԰) story, persuaded schoolmates to star in it and then began shooting a 30-minute DV movie, all in English. ¡°I played one of the leading roles, actually I was everything in my film. I worked on it every single day during the SARS holidays,¡± she recalled. The movie finally became a big hit on campus, earning You a strong reputation(ÃûÆø) as a DV movie director.

¡¡¡¡But this is not the only field she wants to master. Despite being a science student, You likes art, literature and fashion design very much.

¡¡¡°There are people who can be artists, there are people who edit books, and there are people who become film producers. But I just hope to mix all the things up!¡± she said. ¡°There is an old saying I believe: Chance favours only the prepared mind.¡±

The ¡°show business¡± attracts many young people.     1     , only very few can hope to become famous. Talent is not   2   . Without a good manager, a performer can never hope to succeed. He must work harder than ever to    12    popular, because there are always younger singers trying to become famous.

The life of a successful pop singer is   13   . He can only relax when he is   14   , because everything he does is watched and reported in the special newspaper written for the "fans". The fans are the most important people in the world for   15   . They buy his records, they go to his concerts, and they make him   16   . But they can be very troublesome, too. They sometimes   17   handkerchiefs, they tear off buttons, and they even cut off pieces of the unfortunate singer's hair. Many singers have been forced to    18     A pop singer has to spend a lot of money on   19   , because he must always look smart. He must have a nice car. And   20   he must always keep smiling for the benefit of his public.

Many children may be fond of animals, but few ever think of making the study of animals their career(Ö°Òµ).Even fewer will be   1    by the whole world,   2    the title of United Nations Messenger(ʹÕß) of Peace.

But one woman has    3    all that. She has lived with chimpanzees in the African forest for more than 20 years and made great    4   .This woman is Jane Goodall. She was born in London, England, in 1934.Goodall¡¯s lifelong    5    in animals began at an early age. By the age of 10 or 11,Goodall    6    going to Africa to live with animals. This was quite a strange dream in those days, as young    7    didn¡¯t think of having such ¡°wild¡± actions. But she was   8    by her mother. She told her that if she really wanted something, she should work hard, take advantage of   9   and never give up looking for a way.

When a close friend invited Goodall to Kenya in 1957,she readily   10   .Within a few months of her arrival she met the famous anthropologist(ÈËÀàѧ¼Ò) Dr. Louis Leakey, who soon decided that Goodall was the    11    person he was looking for to begin a    12    of wild chimpanzees on the shore of Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania.

In July 1960, Goodall arrived at Gombe National Park in Tanzania. At the beginning, studying the chimpanzees was not    13   for her. The animals fled from her   14   , so it took months for her to get close to them. With a strong   15   , she searched the forest every day, trying not to get too close to the chimpanzees too   16   . Gradually the chimpanzees became used to her presence.

She discovered many things of chimpanzees during her first years at Gombe National Park. In October 1960,she observed a chimpanzee making and using   17    to fish for termites (°×ÒÏ).This discovery threw    18    on the popular idea at the time that Man was the world¡¯s only toolmaker. The longer Goodall¡¯s research continues, the more it becomes obvious that chimpanzees are very   19    to humans.

Since the mid-1980s, Goodall has been lecturing around the world to raise people¡¯s sense about environmental    20   . ¡°Let¡¯s live in the new age with hope, respect for all living things, understanding and love,¡± she said.
