摘要:(E) Directions: Read the text and choose the most suitable heading from this list for each paragraph of the text. There is one extra heading. A. Classroom participation B. Differences in American university education C. Examination system D. Competition among students E. Honest policy in students' school work F(AB) Students' responsibility for learning 96. There is considerable variety in university classrooms in the United States. Because of diverse teaching methods and non-standardized curricula , no two courses are the same. Undergraduate courses are considerable different from graduate courses. The classroom atmosphere in expensive, private universities may differ from that in community colleges which are free and open to everyone. 97. Participation in the classroom is not only accepted but also expected of the student in many courses. Some professors base part of the final grade on the student's oral participation. Although there are formal lectures during which the student has a passive role (i.e., listening and taking notes), many courses are organized around classroom discussions, student questions, and informal lectures. 98. Many teachers believe that the responsibility for learning lies with the student. If a long reading assignment is given, instructors expect students to be familiar with the information in the reading even if they do not discuss it in class or give an examination. (Courses are not designed merely for students to pass exams.) The ideal student is considered to be one who is motivated to learn for the sake of learning, not the one interested only in getting high grades. 99. Ideally, the teacher-student relationship at universities is characterized by trust. The honor system, put forward by the teacher and the university demands that the student be honest in all areas of school work. Thus, cheating on tests, Plagiarizing in written work, presenting other's ideas as original, and turning in homework completed by someone else are all prohibited . 100. Relationships between students in the classroom can be cooperative or competitive. International students should not hesitate to ask for help if it is needed. There are courses, however, where grades are calculated in relation to other student's scores. Therefore, in classes where such a grading curve is used, students may be reluctant to share lecture notes or information for fear that their own grades will suffer.

A. Possible problems due to global warming

B. Warmer summer in Dallas

C. Help from Methane

D. One important step

E. Getting warmer and warmer in some places

F. Problems bigger than benefits

76.__________

Here is what global warming could do in a few years: in Dallas, a doubled level of carbon dioxide would increase the number of days a year with temperatures above 100 degrees from nineteen to seven-eight. On sixty-eight days, as opposed to the current four, the temperature wouldn’t fall below 80 degrees at night. One hundred and sixty-two days a year, the temperature would top 90 degrees.

77. __________

Although most scientists agree that increasing levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases will inevitably lead to global warming, no one is certain how fast and how much temperatures will rise and what the effects will be in any geographical areas. This gives policymakers an excuse for delaying action. Some experts predict that within two centuries glaciers(冰川) in the North and South Poles will melt, ocean levels will rise, and much of what is now the coast of the United States will be under water. They also predict great droughts and hurricanes, as a result of climate changes.

78. __________

Other scientists think the changes will be much more gradual, even beneficial. After all, Canada would not complain if the productive corn-growing lands were shifted north. While many nations could end up with milder climates, the change-perhaps 100 times faster than at any time in human history—could be so drastic(猛烈的) that many of the benefits would be lost. There could be crowds of environmental refugees, as well, making the tragedy of the Dust Bowl era seem mild in comparison.

79. __________

What can we do? Humanity’s contribution to the greenhouse effect comes from so many basic activities that we can’t hope to eliminate it completely. Some steps have already been taken. Since the 1970’s, the use of CFCs as aerosol-can propellants(喷雾器) has seen banned in the United States.

80. __________

Another strategy is to burn as much as methane(甲烷) as possible. This aids CO2 to the air, but since methane traps twenty times as much heat as CO2, the net result is worth-while. The gas in many garbage landfills is already being used in a number of places around the United States. It is being used to heat thousands of homes.

A. The reasons for the problematic food situation in Britain.

B. The effect of the situation on farmers.

C. The variety of British food.

D. The surface richness of food and questions it brings.

E. The different situations at home and abroad.

F. The recent reason for the huge supply of food.

1

The long years of food shortage in Britain have suddenly given way to huge food supply.  Stores and shops are crowded with food.  Rationing(定量供应) has already seemed too distant to today’s Britons.  Even overseas suppliers have been asked to hold back deliveries.  Yet, instead of joy, there is widespread uneasiness and worries.  Why do food prices keep on rising, when there seems to be so much more food about?  Is the surface huge amount of food only temporary, or has it come to stay?  Does it mean that we need to think less now about producing more food at home?

2

The recent growth of food supply on the world food market has certainly been unexpectedly great, partly because two continuous big grain harvests in North America are now being followed by a third.  Most of Britain’s overseas suppliers of meat, too, are offering more this year and home production has also risen.

3

Then why is the food situation in Britain still faulty?  On the one hand, The British government has gradually cut down support for food.  On the other hand, the shops are overstocked with food not only because there is more food available, but also because people, frightened by high prices, are buying less of it.

4

Moreover, the rise in food prices at home has come at a time when world prices have begun to fall, with the result that imported food, with the exception of grain, is often cheaper than the home-produced variety.  And now grain prices, too, are falling internationally.  British consumers are beginning to ask why they should not be able to benefit from this trend.

5

The significance of these developments is not lost on farmers.  The older generation have seen it all happen before.  Despite the present price and market guarantees, farmers fear they are about to be squeezed between cheap food imports and a smaller home market.  Present production is running quickly compared with years ago.  However, farmers haven’t shared any benefit from the change.

A. Try writing with the wrong hand

B. Let yourself daydream

C. Develop your inspiration

D. Discover your hidden talents

E. Record your dreams

F. Stimulate your senses

1.

Every night, for about 90 minutes, we drift into a strange, shadowy, magical world of our own creation. Poets, writers, artists and even scientists have found inspiration in their “dreamland”. Dreams are a message from the subconscious, a way of tapping your inner self. Keep a note pad and pen by your bedside, and as soon as you wake, note down whatever snatches of dreams you can recall. Dreams can solve your problems, give you advice, reveal your true feelings, and be a source of inspiration.

2.

What are you aware of right now? Look at a familiar object in the room as if seeing it for the first time — explore it with your eyes. Next, listen intently to any sounds you can hear. What can you smell and taste at this moment? Touch whatever is within reach, run your hand over and around it — how does it feel? During the next few weeks activate all your senses. Visit an art gallery, walk in a pine forest, luxuriate in a second bubble bath, go to a concert, swim, have a massage. Try to experience it all as if it were totally new to you.

3.

If you’re right-handed, develop the skills of your left hand or vice versa — allow it to draw something, switch TV channels or drink a cup of tea. Try this exercise: write a list of ten adjectives which characterize your personality using the hand you usually write with. A few days later, repeat the exercise writing with the other hand. Then compare the two lists. You might be surprised at the secrets of your inner self! For example, on the first list you might have written that you’re “witty”, but the second list might say “suspicious”. Then try a similar exercise, making two lists of “ What I would most like to do”.

4.

Have you ever longed to paint portraits or watercolors, write a novel, draw cartoons, compose a song, design your own clothes, set up a business or landscape your garden? If so, why not start now? Yes, you might discover that your fast efforts are laughable — but try, try again. With a few notable exceptions such as Mozart, most people haven’t developed their creative talents through sheer hard work. Don’t kid yourself that you haven’t any spare time. It’s a question of making time, of seeing your talents as important enough to devote a few hours to each week. Who knows — you might be the next Laura Ashley or Agatha Christie?

5.

Forget about being told off for daydreaming at school. Daydreaming is good for you! Whether it’s a purely fantasy, or a dream about how life might be in the future, only the right-brain has visions of this kind. Creative visualization, vividly imagining whatever you desire as if it has already happened — and really believing in it, is said to be a powerful way of getting what you want. Many top sports people imagine themselves playing and winning — and it seems to work.

(E)

A.The disadvantage(s) of credit cards.

B.Clever choice of credit cards.

C.The benefits credits cards bring.

D.Avoidance of economic trouble by using credit cards wrongly.

E. People’s misunderstanding about credit cards.

F. Ways to save on the interest.

80.______ Although credit cards are already a more acceptable part of the financial dealings, they are still regarded, especially in the time of a serious economic crisis, by many as being a major part of the “live now pay later” system.  Along with hire-purchase regulations, credit cards, according to some, provide encouragement to spend more money.  However, it’s only the fool who is dominated by the temptation to live, temporarily at least, beyond their means, and such people would no doubt manage to do so even without credit cards.

81.______ Advertising campaigns have already promoted a growing realization of the advantages of these small pieces of plastic.  They avoid the need to carry large amounts of cash and are always useful in emergencies.  And the monthly credit card bill is a loyal booker keeping your monthly purchase record and indicating your buying habits.

82.______ All the credit card organizations charge interest on a monthly basis which may work out as high as two percent a year.  But sensible purchase using a card can mean that you obtain up to seven weeks interest-free credit.  Using the card abroad, where items frequently take a long time to be included on your account, can extend this period even further.

83.______ It is worthwhile consulting more credit card companies before deciding on a particular credit card.  It is necessary to consider the amount of credit granted, interest rates, which may vary slightly; the number and range of outlets, though most cards cover major stores.

84.______ Undoubtedly, if used wisely, a credit card can cost nothing, or at lease help to tide you over a period of financial difficulty.  However, we should also remember that the wrong use of the little plastic may drag us deep into financial troubles.  More than half of the American personal bankruptcy(破产) and credit failure cases are connected with the wrong use of the credit card.  Therefore, every time you open your wallet and reach for a credit card, remember to ask yourself:” Is the item necessary to me?” and “Do I really need so many credit cards?”
