Look at the center circles of Diagram (图) A and Diagram B. Which of the centre circles looks larger?
Take a first look and you probably think that the centre circle in Diagram A is smaller than that in Diagram B. In fact , they are exactly the same size.
Then look at the picture on the right. What do you see? A vase ? Or two faces? Does the picture change quickly from one to the other again and again? Maybe or maybe not, but you can never see them at the same time.
"What's happening? Is something wrong with my eyes?" You may wonder at what you see. Don't worry. Here is how it goes:
When we look at things, our eyes send messages to our brains and then our brains interpret (解读) the information. However, sometimes our brains interpret the received information in a wrong way. It seems that our eyes are playing a joke on us. This often happens and we call it "Visual illusion" (视觉错误).
Movie makers often make use of illusions. They make the objects around actors much smaller or bigger than usual. This makes us believe that the actors are much larger or smaller than they usually are. The movies Jurassic Park and Honey I shrunk the kids just make use of illusions.

Do you know 3D movies? When you see one, it’s like the story is happening in front of you, and you are a part of it. 3D movies are amazing to watch, but do you know how to make them, and why you need to wear a pair of 3D glasses? To understand these questions, let’s do an easy experiment.
Put a finger in front of your eyes.
Cover your left eye and look at the finger.
Cover your right eye and look at the finger.
What do you see? The finger you see with your left eye is in a different position from the one you see with your right eye. This means you get two images(图像) when you look at something with both your eyes. To make a 3D movie, people have to get two images at the same time, so they use two video cameras. When playing a 3D movie, they use two projectors(放映机) at the same time. This brings two images together on the screen. Then, we use 3D glasses to separate(分离) the two images(1). One image enters one eye and the other image enters the other eye.
Then our brains put the two images together. This way, we get 3D pictures(2).

For years I wanted a garden.I’d spend hours thinking of different things I could plant that would look nice together.
But then we had Matthew, and Marvin, and the twins Alisa and Alan, and then Helen.I was too busy raising them to grow a garden.
Money was not enough.Neither was time.Often when my children were little,
one of them would want something that cost too much, and I’d have to say, “Do you see a money tree outside? Money doesn't grow on trees, you know.”
Finally, all the children got through high school and college and were off on their own.I started thinking again about a garden.
Then, one spring morning, on Mother’s Day, I was working in my kitchen.Suddenly, I looked out of the window and there was a new tree, planted right in my yard. There were things blowing around on it. Then I put my glasses on—and I couldn’t believe what I saw.
There was a money tree in my yard!
I went outside to look.It was true! There were dollar bills(帐单), one hundred of them, hanging all over that tree. There was also a note among them, “Thank you for your time, Mom.We love you!”
Later, my children bought me tools, ornaments, a sunflower stepping stone and gardening books.A new page started in my life.
That was three years ago.My garden’s now very pretty, just like I wanted. When I go out and take care of my flowers, I don’t seem to miss my children as much as I once did.It feels like they’re right there with me.Now every year when winter comes, I look out of my window and think of the flowers I’ll see next spring in my little garden.I think about what my children did for me, and I get tears in my eyes—every time.
I’m still not sure that money grows on trees. But I know love does!
