4.Are Mobile Phones Taking Over Our Lives?
I recently visited London and traveled on the tube while I was there.Apart from the people(41)B,almost everybody else was on their phones, and because of the nature of the tube,it is difficult not to see(42)Awhat they are all doing.Of course,being(43)Dit is difficult to get any signal, which rules out texting or using the Internet,(44)Bthere is still plenty you can use your phones for.People were playing(45)C,reading articles and listening to music, and I'm sure that as soon as they(46)Dfrom the train station they would start texting, calling or checking their emails. There is a constant(47)Bto everyone in the world,(48)Byou have a mobile phone in your hand.
Recently,my smart-phone broke and had to be(49)C to the warehouse for(50)Cfor a week or so.In the meantime I had to use a really(51)D,basic phone just to keep in touch with my family and friends. All I could do on this phone was send (52)B,make calls and play one game. And I loved it.I loved being free from the Internet, and I really didn't mind not having constant(53)Cabout what my friends were doing or what the latest celebrity story was.It was quite(54)Dand it allowed me to spend more time(55)Cmy surroundings-I could(56)Bmy time in London more, for example, and I could watch the people around me and really see what was going on.
(57)A,I knew that as soon as I got my smart-phone back I would be one of those people once again,(58)Cto finding out what everyone is doing and(59)Dmy time playing games or checking social network sites.Perhaps I should just go back to using the basic phone and(60)BI ever got my smart-phone back…

1.A eed a Day
It was a busy day as usual.I was making sandwiches and balancing the phone between my shoulder and chin. The washing machine sounded as my husband walked in with our daughters. We had only about twenty minutes to eat (36)C we had to take the girls to their next activity. My husband seemed a bit(37)A that dinner was not on the table.
That night,I had a heavy (38)D,thinking we were becoming taskmasters on an assembly line (流水线).We had become too(39)A in our own tasks and not very considerate towards those around us.We needed to do something to bring back some meaning into our lives. It needed to be something that would (40)C our own agendas and energize us toward the common good.
I bought a notebook, named it"Our Deed Diary"and held a family meeting.I told my family I wanted us all to think about doing a (41)A for others every day.It could be for each other or for people outside our(42)B.And we all needed to write it down in the notebook.
I thought one deed a day was too easy. However,it was actually(43)C than it seemed because it had to be something (44)A what we had already done.Sending birthday cards to people we already sent cards to every year would not(45)B.
We had a rough (46)C.On some days, someone would forget to(47)D a good deed, while on oher days,we would forget to write our good deeds in the diary. After a few weeks though,I found myself waking up in the morning trying to(48)B what good deed I could do for someone that day.My daughters began to rush to me after school to (49)D me the good deed they had done.
Now,after a year,I am happy to say that it is making a(n) (50)C in our lives.Instead of always (51)D what the day will bring for us,we think bout what we can do for someone else.
Who would have thought that trying to do a simple kindness a day would be so(52)D?I feel my daughters have felt inner joy that you can only (53)A by giving to someone else from your heart. The best thing is that you feel so great about doing something for someone else; you don't even look for or expect anything i(54)B.So,when someone does return the favor,it is an enormous and positive(55)B.
