PAUL’S brother bought him a new car as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve (前夜), Paul saw a boy walking around the new car, admiring it.

"Is this your car, Mister?" he asked.

Paul nodded. "My brother gave it to me for Christmas." The boy was amazed. "You mean your brother just gave it to you? Boy, I wish...." Paul knew what he was going to wish for — a brother who would buy him a car. But the boy surprised Paul.

"I wish that I could be a brother like that," he said.

Astonished, Paul invited the boy to go for a ride in the new car.

After a short ride, the boy said, "Would you mind driving in front of my house?" Paul thought the boy wanted to show the car to his neighbors. But Paul was wrong again.

The boy ran up the steps of his house. Soon he came back carrying his crippled (残废的) little brother. He pointed to the car. "Look!" he said to the little boy. "His brother gave him that car for Christmas. Some day I’m gonna give you one just like it!"

Paul got out and lifted the little boy into his car. The older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them went on a wonderful holiday ride.

That Christmas Eve, Paul learned how good it felt to give.

“I started going to clubs when I was nineteen. My friends went and they told me that I’d love it. They were right.” –Lara

Lara is a twenty-one-year old student who loves dancing. “At the moment, my favorite kind of music is acid jazz. I’d love to go to a Fatboy Slim or Ken Ishii gig. They’re so cool,” says Lara. Fatboy Slim and Ken Ishii are not pop stars—they are famous DJs. Being a DJ these days means more than playing records at a nightclub. DJs like Fatboy Slim have also produced a lot of successful CDs of their own music.

Nightclubs have been popular since the seventies but today’s clubs are different. They don’t usually open until at least 11 pm, and people often stay until 7 or 8 o’clock the next morning. Some clubbers will keep on dancing until 12 o’clock in the morning.

Why has dance music become so popular? Some people believe that clubs give young people what the hippies found in the sixties. They have somewhere to meet people just like them. Many clubbers say that dance music helps them to escape from their problems. They feel they are part of a big happy family. But most people just love to dance.

Freshmen, eager to get home for the Chinese New Year, queue up at the railway station for hours.Days later, they squeeze into a crowded train and dream of the home-cooked meals and love they'll enjoy once they arrive home. This, they say, makes all the trouble of getting home worthwhile.

However, many freshmen come to find that home is not exactly how they remembered it.Living away from their parents has exposed them to a new life of freedom – one that within hours of arriving some begin to miss.Household chores(家务活)and complaining parents are just a few of the things that can ruin students' winter fantasies.“My parents still treat me like I was in senior high,” Song Ying, a 19-year-old freshman at Shandong University, complained.“I get an earful from them every day.”

During her first term away from her Hubei home, Song missed everything – from her parents cooking to the city bus.She cried and ached to sleep in her own bed.So, upon finishing her exams, she fled home, thinking everything would be just as it used to be.But she was wrong. Now, she spends entire days at a friend's home to “avoid all the restrictions”.She logs online to update friends' profile on SNS, skips meals and sleeps in – just like she did on campus.

Things have been even tenser at home for Luo Ruiqi, a 19-year-old freshman at Beijing Jiaotong University.Instead of moving to a friend's house, though, he has decided to challenge his parents' rules for his right to be an adult at home. When they complained about the amount of time he spent in the toilet, Luo said he decided “enough is enough” and lost his temper. He feels guilty about his attitude, but he still argues that he is grown up enough to live by his own rules.“I just want to live my own way of living, wherever I am,” said Luo.

Recent graduates like Wang Kai know what Song and Luo are going through. But Wang, who graduated in 2008 and now works in Beijing, says students should value the time spent with their family and “just try to be nicer.” Wang says he acted the same way when he first returned home from college, but now, living 1,500 km away from his hometown in Hunan, he regrets his behavior. He realizes that his parents meant well. And, looking back, he says that “the way of living that we got used to on campus is not that healthy anyway”.

Parents, meanwhile, are more understanding than you might think.“Living on their own in a strange place can be hard –we've been there before,” said Luo's father.“We want to make sure that they are healthy and happy.Sometimes maybe we just worry too much.” As for the tension that's arisen between father and son, Luo senior laughed and said, “It's not a problem at all – he's my son; we work things out, always.”

The government looks to protect and help you in times of need and the lawyers are there to fight for your case if you are treated unfairly. Just like then, there is still a need for government to help people when they need help now in today’s world. This can be very frustrating because being out of work means that you cannot make money that you need in order to provide for yourself and those you are possible taking care of. This is where the government comes into play. The government will help you out with this and possibly give you money in order to keep yourself from ending up on the streets.
