11．Black boxes（黑匣子） are special instruments．They are mainly used on planes to record all in-flight information．They are the most important tools to help people find out the reasons of air accidents．
A plane often carries two black boxes-the Digital Flight Data Recorder which can record data about the speed，direction，while the Cockpit Voice Recorder keeps conversations and other sounds in the pilots'cabin （驾驶舱）．

They can survive （幸存） in as deep as 6，000meters underwater or a very high temperature-one hour at 1，100degrees centigrade．They can send signs for one month so that people can find them．
Not all black boxes work well after air accidents．Luckily，nine out of ten of them can be explained．They have helped people find out the reasons of many air accidents so far．
