Camp memories last forever! We make sure they are unforgettable!

Sun Summer Camps offer so many exciting things for campers to do.Unlike other camp programs that include horses as a small part of their program, at Sun Camp, horses ARE the program! We are 100%horse from stable(马厩)management, nature walks, and track rides to bedroom furnishings.

Horses help us achieve many of our aims.Girls can learn to develop responsibility, self-confidence and personal connections in their lives while having fun.Using horses as a wonderful tool for education, our camps offer an interesting place for growth and learning.

Imagine each girl having her very own horse to spend time with and a best friend to love and take care of!Each camper is responsible for a horse for the week. Our riding program provides a lot of riding and lesson time.Campers will learn how to take care of the horse as well as how to ride.Days are filled with horse-related activities to strengthen the connection between each girl and horse, as the girls learn to work safely around the horses.

At Sun, we try to create a loving, caring family atmosphere for our campers. We have “The Bunkhouse”(4 girls), the” Wranglers Roost”(4 girls), and “The Hideout”(2 girls)in our comfortable 177-year-old farm house. All meals are home cooked, offering delicious and healthy food for the hungry rider.

Our excellent activities create personalized memories of your child’s vacation, Each child will receive a camp T-shirt and a photo album(usually 300-500 pictures)of their stay at camp.

Our camps are offered during June, July and August 2008, for small groups of girls aged 13-16 years, not only from Canada but also other parts of the world.

Recently studies have shown that the earth is getting warmer. The scientists who carried out the studies say a large amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is the reason for the warming. CO2 is the gas which human and animals give off when They breathe. It is also produced when coal, oil and other things are burnt. Scientists have warned that this kind of burning is adding too much CO2 to the atmosphere. They believe the gas acts like a green house--the grass-topped building used to grow plants in cold weather. They say the gas is like the grass roof of a green house, which lets in sunlight, but prevents heat from running away. As a result, they say the earth becomes warmer.

One of these scientists, Dr. Hansen, says the weather will become so hot that some rivers will dry up. On the other hand, satellite pictures show us there is less ice in the Antarctic during the summer time than in earlier years. The heat would turn all the ice at both ends of the earth into water, making the oceans rise five to seven meters higher than they are now.

(1)The weather is getting warmer because ________.

[ ]

A. there are too many human and animals on the earth

B. a lot of heat has been produced by burning of some materials

C. the sun has given more heat in recent years

D. there is a large amount of CO2 in the atmosphere

(2)Farmers in cold weather build some green houses to ________.

[ ]

A. keep warm in winter

B. get some more sunlight

C. get some heat to plant some vegetables

D. prevent some vegetables from shining

(3)Too much CO2 makes the earth warmer than before because ________.

[ ]

A. it can give heat to the earth

B. it can prevent heat from running away

C. it can absorb heat form the sun

D. it cam pollute the atmosphere

(4)According to the view of Dr. Hansen, some day in the future ________.

[ ]

A. all rivers on the earth will dry up

B. the water level on land will rise five to seven meters higher

C. all ice in the Antarctic will turn into water

D. all ice on the earth will turn into water

(5)What do you think the best way to prevent the earth from getting warmer?

[ ]

A. Many animals should be get rid of.

B. Many kinds of materials should be used again.

C. The growing increase of population should be controlled.

D. Something should be done to prevent air pollution.

The case for college has been accepted without question for more than a generation. All high school graduates ought to go, because college will help them earn more money, become “better” people, and learn to be more responsible citizens than those who don’t go.

But college has never been able to work its magic for everyone. And now that close to half our high school graduates are attending, those who don’t fit the pattern are becoming more and more obvious.College graduates are selling shoes and driving taxis; college students get in the way of each other’s experiments and write false letters of recommendation in the competition for admission to graduate school.Others find not interested in their studies, and drop out-often encouraged by college leaders.

Some observers say the fault is with the young people themselves-they are spoiled and they are expecting too much. But that is to blame the students as a whole, and does not explain all campus unhappiness.Others blame the state of the World, and they are partly right. We’ve been told that young people have to go to college because our economy cannot take in an army of untrained eighteen-year-olds.But disappointed graduates are learning that it can no longer take in an army of trained twenty-two-year-olds, either.

Some adventuresome educators and campus watchers have openly begun to suggest that college may not be the best, the proper, the only place for every young person after the completion of high school. We may have been looking at all those surveys upside down, it seems, and thinking of the rosy glow of our own remembered college experiences.Perhaps college does not make people intelligent, ambitious, happy, liberal, or quick to learn things-maybe it is just the other way round, and intelligent, ambitious, happy, liberal, quick-learning people are only the ones who have been attracted to college in the first place. And perhaps all those successful college graduates would have been successful whether they had gone to college or not. This is heresy(异端邪说)to those of us who have been brought up to believe that if a little schooling is good, more has to be much better. But opposite evidence is beginning to mount up.

(1)

According to the passage all the following statements are true EXCEPT that ________.

[ ]

A.

about half of the high school graduates continue their studies in colleges.

B.

college graduates are believed to be able.to cam more money.

C.

1eaders often encourage college students to drop out.

D.

more and more young people are found unfit for college.

(2)

Which of the following is one of some observers’ opinions?

[ ]

A.

The students expect so much that they are not satisfied with the hard college life.

B.

The economic situation is so discouraging that the youth have to attend college.

C.

Colleges should improve because of so much campus unhappiness.

D.

Colleges provide more chances of good jobs than anywhere else.

(3)

What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 4 mean?

[ ]

A.

Our college experiences prove that those surveys are incorrect.

B.

The surveys may remind us of our beautiful college experiences.

C.

The surveys should all be reexamined according to our college experiences.

D.

Our college experiences may make us misunderstand the results of the surveys.

(4)

What is the main purpose of this passage?

[ ]

A.

To value young people’s further education in colleges.

B.

To put forward an idea that college should not be the first choice,

C.

To argue against the idea that college is the best place for all young people.

D.

To persuade young people into working after the completion of high school.
