　　There was one thing that I found rather strange on my first day to work at Monk’s House．The floors in the house were very thin．The bathroom was directly above the kitchen, and when Mrs．Wolf was having her bath before breakfast, I could hear her talking to herself．On and on she went, talked, talked, talked, asking questions and giving herself the answers．I thought there must have been two or three people up there with her．Later Mrs．Woolf explained that Mrs．Woolf always said the sentences out loud what she had written during the night．She needed to know if they sounded right and the bath was a place for trying them out．

　　I can always remember her coming out of her writing room only for lunch each day．She used to walk down through the thin and very graceful, with large, deep set eyes．She wore long skirts in the fashion of the day, any silk jackets of the same color, which suited her well．I pressed her clothes and did any sewing that was necessary．

　　Her cigarettes were made from a special tobacco called My Mixture．Mr．Woolf bought it for her in London, and in the evenings, they used to sit by the fire and make these cigarettes themselves．

Hilary Smith belonged to a good family．But by the age of twenty, he had spent all the money the good old family had．He then had some trouble with the bank and was put in prison．He escaped from the prison and ran to Australia without delay.

Hilary discovered his aunt's address．Fortunately she remained faithful and honest to him even after she fell ill．So Hilary's star shone again, and soon he moved into her house and lived as comfortably as a sailor who had just reached harbour．He had only about a six pence in his pocket．
One thing was soon clear: his aunt was seriously ill, and nothing could cure her illness．Hilary was very worried．Fate had found a home for him, and was now going to throw him out of it．There was only one thing that could save him: her will．
"Will?" she said, "yes, I have made one．That was when I was a girl and had not much money．I left all my money to some religious people．"
"Didn't you make another will when you were married?" Hilary asked．
His aunt shook her head．"No," she said in a low voice, "There was no need．When I finally had a lot of money I found I had no relations．"
On the next day he went to the public library and examined a book of law．It told him what he already believed．When a woman is married, an earlier will lose its value．A new will must be made．If no new will is made, the money goes to the nearest relation．Hilary knew that he was his aunt's only relation．His future was safe．
After a few months had passed, Hilary's problems became serious．He badly needed money．He had expensive tastes, and owed a lot of money to shopkeepers．They trusted him because his aunt was rich; but the debt was terrible．

Time is very important in our lives. It organizes our everyday moments. However, time never had any importance in my life until I received a watch from my father.

I received this gift on a cloudy day. I had to go to the airport at 9:00 a.m. to meet my uncle and take him to my father’s house. However, I was late because I was staying with my friends. Later on that day, around 11:00 a.m., I remembered my uncle, but I was very late for him. He had left the airport and taken a taxi to my father’s house.

I got to my father’s house at 2:00 p.m. and felt ashamed of myself at that moment. After I said “hello” to my angry father and tired uncle, my father asked me to sit next to him and gave me this watch. Then he said, “Essa, did you have fun with your friends today?”

“Yes, Dad, and I’m sorry about not meeting my uncle at the airport.”

“I hope today you learned something important, and this watch will be a reminder (提醒物) for you.” He told me to take this watch and use it as an organizer of my life.
