When you sit and watch TV hour after hour, do you ever think of what it may be doing on your health?
More and more children are becoming overweight and near-sighted   1  they spend too much time in front of the TV. Also, they are growing less and less creative since watching TV. It doesn’t   2  any active thought.
Last week, the TV-Turnoff Organization began its ninth TV-Turnoff   3   in the US. The organization encourages people to play games, read books, lie under a tree, talk to family members and friends   4  watching TV.
American school children   5  , on average, 1,000 hours a year watching TV-more time than they spend in school. That’s too much, said the doctors   6  organized this year’s TV-Turnoff Week.
Doctors say that the   7  children watch television, the more overweight they may become. The fat children eat while they watch the television makes this weight  8  more serious.
To keep mentally and physically healthy, children need to take exercise, talk with friend and family, read, and  9  the world around them. Could you go a week without television? It might be    10  for many TV lovers, but why not give it a try?

The story tell us about the British writer, Richard Savage. He was once living in London with1money in his pockets. In order to get some food and clothes, he wrote the story of his life and managed to have it published. But not many copies of his books were2in the shops, and he was still living a hard life. Because of anxiety(忧虑)and malnutrition(营养不良), he became very weak and before long he fell3, and a doctor was sent for. The doctor was not rich enough, but was4literature. He tried his best to cure Savage of his illness and a week later Savage was out of danger. When he finally recovered(重新获得) his5, the doctor sent a bill to Savage for his6, but poor Savage had no money to pay it. The doctor waited for a month and sent another bill. Receiving no money again, the doctor went to Savage himself.
"You know you owe(欠) your life to me," said the doctor, "and I should7some thankfulness from you."
"I agree," said the writer, " you've done a great favour(恩惠) for me and if I'm not ungrateful for your kindness, I'll damage(损坏) my life to you."
With these words he handed the doctor two copies of The Life of Richard Savage.
The doctor took the books home and began to8them carefully.
"I see I've9the life of a great writer," the doctor said to himself with a sense of pride,  Maybe this is the only thing I could be really10of in my life."
Five years later Savage called on the doctor to pay his bill, only to find that the doctor had already passed away .

My name is Ben Mansury. I’m fifteen years old and study in a middle school. In school, I never join in any group discussion or stage (舞台) program. So, I never knew what stage nervousness was.
Our community (社区) has a weekly “Students Ideas” program. About two years ago, I received a(n) 1 from the chairman of our community. He invited me to the “Students Ideas” talk the next morning to speak to the group.
The time between his call to the next morning was like several weeks for me. The whole night, I could not sleep. Many 2 were coming. One of them was to call the chairman, with regret, and tell him that I could not come. But finally, I thought, if I missed this 3, the community would never invite me again to any of their programs. So, I decided to go.
I reached the hall in time. When my turn came and I started, my heartbeat increased and my mouth went dry. I wasn’t even able to 4 the words on the paper properly. I had no idea where I was standing and what I was talking. That was the day when I 5 my biggest weakness: public speaking.
After I finished, I met with the chairman and 6 what happened to me. He said that this happens to everyone. It is very 7. He suggested that I should come again the next week.
I 8 a talk carefully. This time when I gave the talk, I was somewhat comfortable but not confident (自信的). Afterwards, I met with the chairman again and told him about the improvement I 9 I had made. He was kind enough to invite me again.
For around one month, I practiced a lot for my talk. This time I was feeling comfortable and both the chairman and my neighbors thought I did a good job.
I learned that everything is 10 if we take the first step, as the saying goes: A journey of thousand miles begins with first step.
